Our Values

Sustainability

Our commitment is to develop and support energy solutions that are renewable, efficient, and have a minimal carbon footprint in Preston, and more broadly the North West of England. By installing solar panels, we want to support local businesses with their energy consumption, whilst ensuring the profits of this generation and consumption is shared with the local community.

Community Empowerment

We believe in the power of the community and empowering the community. By involving local residents in decision-making processes and encouraging active participation in our cooperative, we aim to inspire individuals and groups to take an active role in electricity generation. By democratising energy production, we not only distribute the benefits of renewable energy more equitably but also tap into the diverse perspectives and innovative ideas that come from a varied group of stakeholders. As a community benefit society, our members and directors are active members of the local community, and are driven to supporting energy projects that empower our local area.

Education and Awareness

Educating the community about the benefits of renewable energy and sustainable practices is an important focus for Community Energy Preston. We hope to deliver events and workshops to raise awareness and promote the environment for the residents of Preston, and ensure they are aware of the impact they can have by being involved in decarbonising their local communities. This includes partnering with other local organisations, for example Preston Pedals, in showing how small actions can make a difference in contributing to reducing our climate emissions, and tackling the climate emergency.

Economic Resilience

We aim to bolster the local economy by creating green jobs and supporting local businesses. Our community solar projects are designed to provide economic benefits that ripple through the community, fostering financial stability and growth, including choosing local contractors for feasibility and installation work where possible. This includes our commitment to advancing a shared economy, and supporting the work of the ‘Preston Model’, to ensure that community wealth building is at the heart of our activities.
